St. Stephen's Bangkok, Year 6 - Snakes, Rivers and Rafts!

St. Stephen's Bangkok Year 6 came for a one week long (5 days, 4 nights) residential trip to us at The Howling Gibbon Outdoor Education Centre located near Khao Yai National Park.

One of the biggest highlights of the trip was visiting the Sakaerat Conservation and Snake Education Team (SCSET) to learn about Thai snakes and the work the conservation team do on a day-to-day basis. The students also had the opportunity to track wooden snakes hidden around the research station using radio telemetry which turns out to be trickier than you might think!

In addition, we spent a morning taking part in a range of river-based activities to learn how rivers form and how humans can impact on the river ecosystem. We were lucky to see a range of wildlife including deer crossing the river and dragonflies along the river banks.

The students also designed, built and raced rafts in the swimming pool on the final morning. Some rafts performed better than others (shall we say!) but we can safely say that the winning team deserved to come in first place as their design proved the sturdiest and most streamlined.

Overall a fantastic week of curriculum and adventure based outdoor activities.
